Put the clothes you have that fits you well on the floor and measure the size. And compare it with the size chart of the clothes. It is usually easier and more accurate to compare the size of the clothes you have than to measure your body size yourself.

I like the dress which has a tie on the waist area so that I can tie it up to show my waistline. The pattern is pretty in person and M size midi dress fits me well at 5'4 height, 53 kg. Hope it helps.
